Speed, 1994 - β β β β β
Watched on: 2025-01-19
Last Sunday I was looking for an action-packed movie to watch. I felt like watching something FUN and I remembered this gem from my childhood years. Speed has everything I love about the 90's action films: it's fun, full of cheesy dialogues, a vilain that's really evil and a macho hero who gets the girl in the end. It's simple, fun, straightforward. Nothing to overthink about here. No existencial dread. This is not to say the plot is poor, don't get me wrong, it's not. This is a kind of comfort movie I could rewatch again and again.

Last night, I felt like watching something lighthearted, and since I only had a vague memory of this film, I decided to give it another watch. Man, what a delight! I love the idyllic setting and the signature aesthetics Wes Anderson is known for. What I adore most about this movie is how it feels like it's actually being narrated by the 12-year-old heroes of the story. It holds a special place in my heart, too, because of its fun, stereotypical nods to scouting culture, which I found quite amusing.

Hereditary, 2018 - β β β β β

This is my all time favorite horror movie. The idea behind it! The execution! The sense of everything's lost and there's nothing one can do in that context... OMG! This is a pure gem of psychological horror.

I really loved watching this movie. I didn't know Joy Division that well, but I watched this one with a friend who is a huge fan of those guys. This is a really heartbreaking story. I really feel sorry for Ian Curtis. Maybe he could have made it if he had better guidance in his life.

Late Night with the Devil, 2023 - β β β β

This movie was a REALLY fun watch. They managed to recreate a vintage look and feel that's pretty convincing. I actually felt like I was watching the making of an old talk show. This pace and feel was only interrupted at the end of the movie, when it took a rather psychedelic turn in my opinion. It's an overall fun experience which I would watch again. Just the kind of found footage stuff I like.
