About Lucas
Hey y'all Internet folks!
I’m Lucas—a middle-aged Brazilian dad, Chief Scout, and someone who really misses the good ol’ days when the Web wasn’t ruled by Big Tech. My love for computers started when I was 11, and it’s been an ongoing thing since 1997—back in the days when I’d spend my afternoons at arcades and flipping through Spider-Man comic books.
What I do
These days, I work in tech, and over the years, I’ve had the chance to be part of some fascinating industries—automobile manufacturing, aviation, and now healthcare. I’m particularly proud of helping implement an air traffic control system at two of Brazil’s biggest airports and working directly with our air force to train air traffic controllers. Pretty cool, huh? But there’s a lot more to life than just work...
Who am I?
At 38, I was diagnosed with autism and ADHD, which honestly wasn’t a huge shock—it explains a lot! I’ve always had these long-standing passions that I throw myself into, like Metal music, fantasy and sci-fi, writing, and growing things in soil. My imagination runs pretty wild too—I’ve spent years crafting elaborate “inner worlds” in my head. Oh, and sensory sensitivity? Yeah, that’s been a thing I’ve learned to deal with most of my life.
One of the biggest joys in my life is volunteering with the Scouts. If I’m not working, there’s a good chance you’ll find me outdoors playing games with the kids or running activities with them. I’ve been part of the Scouts for years, but in 2023, it got even better—my son joined the movement, and it’s been amazing. We’ve had so much fun together; it’s one of those things that makes life feel really full.
Why this website?
Remember the early days of the Internet when people made fansites just for the love of it? I do. I had a Geocities page about Star Wars back in 2000 and, uh, a t.A.T.u. fansite after that (don’t judge, it was a phase).
I miss that era—when folks had something to say instead of just something to sell. That’s why I put together this little corner of the Web. It’s a place for me to share thoughts, ramble about whatever’s on my mind, and maybe meet some like-minded folks who value discovery over endless ads and sales pitches.
So, feel free to say hi—shoot me an email at hello [at] chatbits.dev. I’m still fiddling with webmentions and all that IndieWeb goodness, so things might be a little messy here for a while. But hey, that’s the fun of it, right?
